Take a dip in the middle of the city (many of the locals do) sunbathe on its beaches, stroll through its forests and parks and fish for trout off its bridges. Stockholm has an embarrassment of natural riches for you to enjoy on your conference, meeting or incentive trip. And an archipelago that should be the envy of every capital city on the planet.
Stockholm archipelago
The Stockholm archipelago is more than 24,000 islands big, fanning out from the city. Expect to see large forested islands, grey barren skerries and rocky islets - and if you’re lucky, seals bobbing in the water.
Getting out to the islands is easy; Waxholmsbolaget boats operate from Strömkajen (boat terminal) on the doorstep of the Grand Hotel, Strömma Kanalbolaget boats operate from Nybrokajen and Strandvägen and Blidösundsbolaget operates from Skeppsbron.
These operators do trips to nearby Vaxholm and Fjäderholmarna islands on their white-painted boats. They all offer boat charters and will lay-on tailored cruises for you.
National City Park
Stockholm’s ‘Ekopark’ is a green corridor of peace, tranquillity and a haven for the city’s wildlife made up of Djurgården, Brunnsviken, Haga and Ulriksdal parks. It is also a National City park, a world first.
As well as taking leisurely strolls and enjoying the greenery, you can get active and canoe or kayak, cycle, go horse-riding, fishing and hiking. Across the parks there are three royal palaces and hundreds of listed buildings.
Fishing
Fish ‘til you drop in the middle of the city at Rosenbad, the body of water that lies between Riksbron and Vasabron. There are two bridges that connect the central part of Stockholm with ‘Gamla Stan’ (Old Town) and from here you can fish for salmon, trout and other game fish. Keen fishermen line the banks at Strömgatan in spring and summer, right outside the Swedish Prime Minster’s residence.
