Barsebäck Golf & Country Cub
The Masters Course at the Barsebäck Golf & Country Club on Sweden’s south west coast hosted the 2003 Solheim Cup and has been the venue for 13 European Tour events. Which means that it is one of the best courses in Europe. The course is a mix of wooded holes, open fairway holes and links holes that fringe the Öresund Strait. The Donald Steel course – named after the course architect – meanwhile is an 18-holer that interplays tight, wooded holes, open fairway and water hazards.
Falsterbo
Falsterbo Golf Club was founded in 1909 and the course is laid out on a peninsula jutting out into the Öresund waters on Sweden’s west coast. This true links course will test your skills on any day, but especially when windy.
The other characteristics of this course you might have to contend with are gorse, heath, water hazards and its ninety bunkers. Links course golf in Sweden does not get better than this.
Halmstad
Halmstad GK on Sweden’s glittering southwest coast is one of Sweden’s most acclaimed golf courses. The North Course winds through forest and streams and is reminiscent of English park-like courses. As a mark of its pedigree the North Course played host to the Solheim Cup in 2007.
The South Course doesn’t play as hard as its big brother but is no less of a challenge. Don’t miss out on this course if you are here.
For ‘island golf’ look no further than Visby Golf Club on the island of Gotland off Sweden’s south coast. Many of the holes of this recently redesigned 27-holer play along the scenic seafront here. This course is a cracking golfing challenge. The 36 holes of Bokskogens Golf Club are just a short drive from bustling Malmö. Around one third of the holes on the Old Course (Gamla banan) play lakeside, presenting its own watery difficulties on this fine course.
