Modern art
The Malmö Museum of Modern Art (Moderna Museet Malmö) is a newly opened subsidiary of the iconic Moderna Museet Stockholm specialising in 20th- and 21st century Swedish and international art. It’s a visual feast across mediums with modern art works and photography from greats like Picasso, Dalí, Matisse and Rauschenberg.
Vikings
Foteviken Viking Centre
offers a true Viking village experience just 20km south of Malmö. The living, archaeological open-air museum recreates living conditions from the Viking Age and preserves handicraft, occupational traditions and Norse mythology.
Visit as you are or if you fancy going the whole hog and want to stay overnight to party with the village people, you must follow The Rule Book; gear up in Viking Age clothes, leave off the slap, keep the phones out of sight, and if you must drink alcohol, just make sure it’s out of a horn.
Theatre, music and dance
Catch everything from Puccini greats to Abba musicals at Malmö Opera. Or for contemporary local and international theatre offerings, visit The Malmö Dramatic Theatre, once run by the legendary Ingmar Bergman. And see a show at the Scanian Dance Theatre for modern dance that’s trendsetting on the international scene.
