Get high in the sky
The Aurora Skystation in the Abisko National Park is purpose-built for viewing the greatest light show on earth – the Northern Lights. And because of its practically permanent cloud-free skies there’s no better place to see them as part of your conference, meeting or incentive trip. You can book a package consisting of a visit to Abisko mountain station, and chairlift transport to Aurora Skystation. Choose from a ‘night visit’ or overnight stay, including dinner. The lights are ‘on’ from the beginning of December until the end of March.
Treehotel
That’s right – a hotel in the trees. In terms of a unique, quirky or ‘once in a lifetime’ conference, meeting or incentive stay – this cannot be beaten. The Treehotel is located in Swedish Lapland, just one hour from the town of Luleå. It is a collection of luxury tree houses with single and double-bed accommodation. The names of the tree houses are a dead giveaway; the Cabin, the Blue Cone, the UFO, a Room with a View, the Mirrorcube, the Tree Sauna and the Bird’s Nest. Visit now.
Dinner on Ice
In the Gulf of Bothnia off Luleå you can do ‘Dinner on Ice’, where you get to sample Lapland delicacies in a Sami tepee on a frozen sea. ‘Roughing it’ this is not; there are candelabras on linen tablecloths, a roaring fire and you can chill your drinks on the floor and it’s below freezing inside. Worry not though, the maître d’ will kit you out with thermals to keep you toasty warm. And the food? The three-course gourmet menu includes locally caught salmon, reindeer and blueberries – yum. Or ‘mums’ as the Swedes say.
Explore and discover Lapland
Lapland means ‘Land of the Sami’, the indigenous people of this land. As part of your conference, meeting or incentive trip, take a Sami guided tour to explore the flora, fauna and wildlife of this vast land – probably the last true wilderness in Europe.
As you discover this country you will also learn about Sami history, culture and philosophy. You might also want to try your hand at herding and lassoing reindeer; expertly instructed by a Sami herdsman.
